A Scream of Silence

The word “hysteria” is used to describe women’s feelings, in a diminishing way, in order to reduce their traumatic experiences, to insignificant events. When women experience that, they feel misunderstood and rejected. In this performance, the woman performer is going through the stages of passivity, exhaustion because of emotional build up and explosion of anger using dramatic facial expressions, abrupt, experimental movements accompanied by the sound of haunting electronic synth music. An atmosphere filled with silent tension, the theatre stage resembles an Italian giallo movie. The woman only uses her voice to make strange noises, or scream; she never says any words. As the audience watches her strange and unpredictable nature unfold, we wonder: are we the villain in her own personal thriller?
