We value your Privacy

“We value your privacy” is a dance performance based on the theme of smart home technology used as a tool of abuse against women. Through our research, we discovered a lot of reported cases where abusers used smart home technology in order to control their partners. Shocked by these horrific cases, we were inspired to create an abstraction of this situation, through an intimate collaboration of movement and dance. The woman-performer is a symbolic figure of every woman experiencing trauma and domestic abuse. In an abstract environment her moves are repetitive yet expressive, retaining a sense of detachment from her surroundings. Music closely follows her and generates restriction to her movements but also offers moments of freedom. These shifts of energy establish a relationship of  constant negotiation, a game of power and control. Through these  rhythmic transitions of power and control we become complicit in her entrapment.
