Help Yourself
by Kassiani Goulakou
Help yourself is an installation and a performance piece. The installation consists of a megaphone, fli- ers, light and a sitting area, while the performance is the activation of this space. The performative part should be considered as a critique on the topic of contemporary interactive art and its shift away from social practice and participation, as the latter has been established in recent art history. The per- formance aims to create a moment of rupture with the other works of the exhibition, questioning the notion of individual and physical activations by addressing the audience as a whole. This notion of collectivity and opposition is reinforced by the objects of the installation. A megaphone, fliers and an almost filled ashtray constitute a space of dis- course, conflict and antagonism.
